A-List Awards 2011
Steven Mueller Architects, LLC is pleased to announce that we were selected as the first place winner for the design of a “Kid’s Room/ Play Space” and a finalist for the design of a “Kitchen” in the athome magazine’s second annual A-List Awards 2011.
athome magazine, a Moffly Media publication, set out on a mission to find the most intriguing interiors, outstanding architecture, and breathtaking gardens in the area. “After reviewing hundreds of entries we asked the best in the business — our accomplished panel of judges — for help.”
To complement returning judges, Eric Cohler and Celerie Kemble, they invited Jonathan Adler, Bunny Williams, Vicente Wolf and architects Jeremiah Eck and Paul MacNeely to weigh in and make their choices.
Moffly Media created this program to recognize these outstanding projects and the professionals involved with them while also serving as a resource for homeowners.
Kid's Room / Play Space (above)
A colorful room designed for two sisters, the open space with high ceilings and handsome crown molding features, built-in desks and sleek lacquer cabinetry for storing the girl’s clutter. Modern artwork, geometric rugs, and bright upholstery make this a fun place for hanging out with friends. A-List judge Jonathan Adler says: “I believe that kids' imaginations thrive in rooms that have lots of bold, saturated color.”
Kitchen
For this sleek kitchen, the architect incorporated clean lines and stylish elements to create a peaceful open space for cooking and entertaining. Two islands make for convenient prep while providing plenty of space for family and friends to gather. “The black and white palette with touches of marble and stainless steel has glamour and style yet is totally practical”, says A-List judge Bunny Williams. “Functionality comes from the double islands, superb storage, and excellent lighting.”
A gala event was celebrated on the evening of September 14, 2011 at the Westport Country Playhouse to acknowledge the selected A-List designers, architects, and builders.

SMA Architectural Scholarship for High School Senior
Steven Mueller Architects, LLC (SMA) of Greenwich sponsored a $500.00 Architectural Scholarship Award to a New Canaan High School senior interested in pursuing a career in architecture. Criteria for the scholarship required that the student had maintained a B average, demonstrated financial need, and had been accepted to an accredited school of architecture with a minimum of a four year program. The Steven Mueller Architects, LLC Award for the pursuit of the Architectural Profession was given to Nicola Scandiffio who was selected by the assistant school principal as the perfect candidate.
This scholarship award was presented by Steven Mueller, AIA at the annual New Canaan High School Recognition Assembly which was held on June 3, 2011 at the New Canaan High School Auditorium. The award was presented under the category of “Technology Education Awards.”
Steven Mueller, AIA was inspired to create this scholarship award after being asked to speak at the New Canaan High School career night which was held on March 22, 2011. There was a large response of students interested in architecture that evening. The enthusiasm and interest shown was enough for SMA to create this annual scholarship award to a graduating senior.
