New home construction continues to rebound to levels not seen since the depths of the financial crisis. These strong numbers are a bright spot in the forecast of the housing market indicating that the recovery is real.

Home prices have risen due to the low mortgage rates, a limited supply of homes and a growing consumer confidence. A turnaround in new house construction is particularly significant because this sector was at the root of the nation’s financial crisis. The increase in new construction signals that a fundamental flaw in the economy may be recovering.

With inventories of new homes at the lowest level in years, home owners are prudently but aggressively purchasing properties to build their dream home. This is partially due to the fact that as home values inch upward consumer confidence grows and spending increases.  For most families their home is their largest investment and the recession robbed them of financial security.

In summary, rising home prices helps to create a wealth effect that is critical in supporting consumer spending and economic expansion.
