Country Shingle Style–A Timeless Architectural Vision

Nestled in the heart of Greenwich's most coveted neighborhoods is our recently completed Country Shingle Style residence–a testament to the enduring beauty of New England's rich architectural heritage.

A Complete Architectural Reimagining

The project began with a bold decision: completely demolishing the existing structure to make way for a fresh architectural vision. Steven Mueller Architects worked alongside the client to meticulously plan a new residence that would not just occupy the space but genuinely belong to it.

The half-acre site in Riverside provided an exceptional canvas. By completely removing the previous building, our team at SMA was free to design a structure that would be perfectly calibrated to its environment—using the orientation of the residence to maximize views and sunlight.

This classic shingle style is characterized by steep roof lines, harmonious design, and a natural material palette. Dramatically pitched roofs add a quintessential touch, visual interest, and dramatic appeal. Wood shingle siding, brick base/ chimney masses, and wood shingle roof, create a cohesive, textured appearance that beautifully weathers over time.

Beyond Construction: Creating a Sense of Place

This Country Shingle Style residence is more than a building—it is a carefully composed architectural experience. Every design choice, from the entryway to the kitchen and living room, tells a story of architectural respect for tradition and place. Enjoy a few key project highlights.

01. The Entryway

The staircase is a functional centerpiece in the main entrance. Natural light from second-story windows cascades down, highlighting the architectural details and creating a welcoming first impression that sets the tone for the entire home.

02. The Kitchen

The heart of the home is this residence's expansive kitchen. The strategic layout features an open-concept living space with natural light, luxurious fixtures, and custom wood cabinetry.

03. The Family Room / Living Areas

Interior finishes strike a sophisticated balance between timeless and bold. The carefully curated palette of bold and neutral hues creates visual interest while maintaining the home's refined character.
