Coastal Shingle Homes by Steven Mueller Architects, LLC

Dating back to the 19th century, Coastal Shingle homes are an iconic element of the New England landscape. These properties feature individual cedar shingles that are often stained and painted. In many cases, shingles are left to weather naturally, evoking a nautical, sun drenched feel. In terms of layout, shingle-style residences can vary from simple to complex. Many include large windows, masonry base and chimney masses, sweeping roof lines, turrets, and cupolas.

Steven Mueller Architects, LLC has completed several Coastal Shingle homes, including a 6,500 square foot design that won a Home Building Industry (HOBI) award in 2016. Located in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, this extraordinary home offers sweeping views of the Long Island Sound via the rooftop balcony. It also features a large front porch, a Porte Cochere, and a grand three-story foyer. The home was designed to respect the scale and style of the surrounding neighborhood, which consists mainly of traditional shingle-style homes.
