Exterior Arched Entryways in Residential Design

The front entrance of a luxury residence is one of its most defining features. It sets the tone for the home and shapes first impressions. At Steven Mueller Architects, we design our residential projects in Greenwich, CT, with a strong sense of arrival, ensuring each entry feels both intentional and welcoming.

The Architectural Impact of the Arch

Arched entrances are a timeless architectural feature. The curve adds a touch of luxury and anchors the façade. It acts not only as a physical element but also as a visual break that attracts the viewer's gaze.

Ultimately, architecture at the entrance should be functional. The entry should be read as a finished, deliberate, and harmonious aspect of the home's style. It’s a strong design statement that starts at arrival and continues inside. Our Coastal English Manor Style residence is a perfect example of this grand design.

Coastal English Manor Style

For this English Manor Style residence, the arched entryway was introduced to complement the home’s traditional architectural language. The exterior incorporates classic English Manor detailing, including hipped roofs with long slopes, prominent stone chimney masses, arched dormers, and a combination of shingle and stone siding. The arch reinforces both the design's formality and craftsmanship.

The size and curve of the arch were carefully measured to align with the home’s overall massing, making it look natural rather than decorative. The depth and finish of the arch gently guide the gaze, while highlighting adorning features and the surrounding landscape.

Natural light also plays a big role in making the arrival experience more pleasant. Careful placement of the glass at the door brings in not only warmth but also a view, making the transition from exterior to interior.
